We can service and repair your silage wagon. So when you need it, it will deliver.

We can service your wagons before the season begins.

The important things we look at:

Conveyor Belt
– Check bearings and drive couplings.
– Ensure the skirts are preventing any silage from getting under the belt. If silage gets under the belt it is almost impossible to keep the belt tracking without shifting

Elevator and Floor Chains
– Check elevator bars for straightness, straighten spikes.
– Check elevator chains, sprockets for wear
– Check scrapers for wear on the elevator and floor chain sprockets.

Axle
– Check wheel bearings and axle oslation.
– Check for cracks on chassis and draw bar.
– And anything else that might require attention.

We can carry out repairs to your exciting yards, or if it is time for an upgrade we can handle that also. Some of the features of the yards we have done are listed below.

Top Gates
This simple but sturdy design is proving to be very reliable and trouble free.  Its ridgity works well with the larger dairy yards.

Backing Gates
Robust backing gates built to last. They are fitted with rubber scrapers and water. The water nozzles can be fitted as close as 0.75m to help remove that stubborn cow dung.  The water can be controlled separately to each gate.

Backing Gate Motors
These motors are all profiled from 6mm and 8mm plate.  They are all electroplated after construction to help increase their life in the harsh environment they live in.

Merv’s Mechanical has developed a high quality wash gland for Rotary Dairy sheds that provides for 3 or 4 services:

  • Vacuum
  • Air
  • Water
  • Electrical

A significant innovation is that we have developed a way to provide an electrical feed and keep all the other services, so there is no need to plug in any hoses. We are also able to provide for additional services such as iodine spray if required. Extensive testing has been conducted and results are have proven that the wash gland is extremely reliable and leak free.

Wash Gland Features:
All wash glands have roller bearings top and bottom to ensure 100% concentric motion under all loading conditions.  This ensures a maximum life span as there is no wearing bushes creating uneven loading to seals causing damage and premature leakage.

  • A stainless steel roller bearing can be fitted in the bottom to eliminate any chance of pitting or corrosion from condensation.
  • Each port is double sealed, increasing seal life and ensuring lubrication goes into the bearings and around the seals where it is needed.
  • Extremely resistant to over greasing
  • Can be retro-fitted on site.
  • Fully Encased.
  • A warranty is available provided it is fitted by an approved agent.
  • Should you require a customised union these can be designed and built on enquiry.

We offer an assessment on your dairy shed, to find out the mechanical issue that your rotary shed is having.
Once the assessment is completed, together we organise a plan of attack.

We level every roller and adjust the tracks using the correct measured shim.

Key point to check to ensure a long life for your platform rollers.

– Make sure all the rollers are running at the same angle vertically. This will ensure the same contact on each roller and give you an even flat wearing surface on your wear strip. If the wear strip has a radius it generally means the rollers are a different angles and contacting the wear strip in a different place.
– The roller has to be exactly square to the centre of the platform. We all know how your car goes if the wheels are not pointing in the right direction. Scuffing and excessive wear. This often seen as flaking in the rollers or wear strip.
– Check the heights of the rollers. If you continually replace bearings in the same rollers, it could mean that the roller is too high and taking more than its share of load.

We machine our dairy rollers on site, our rollers fit either a 6306 or 6307 bearing. We like to machine in bulk to get our price competitive with the rest of the country.

We can machine new dairy rollers to suit your shed requirements. New pins grease able or not are also done with ease.

For the more common rollers we often carry some in stock, great for that inconvenient breakdown.
